The Riley Child Development Center (RCDC) of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana is located in the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children (Riley Hospital) on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). Riley Hospital, an IU Health partner, is a nationally recognized center of excellence in pediatric teaching, continuing community education, clinical health care and research related to the broad spectrum of conditions impacting on the health of mothers, children and families in Indiana and the nation.

In a recent study in the online Pediatrics journal, children who are obese were found more likely to be bullied than their peers. This finding was noted regardless of sex, race, academic ability or socioeconomic status. In addition, the study found that these children were bullied specifically because of their weight. This conference will discuss the bias and bullying experienced by obese children as well as adults, policy and legal solutions to address weight discrimination, identify community factors that impact obesity, and share Indiana success stories in treating obesity.
